It’s a Mini Guide for the First-Time CBD Buyer!
You’ve done the research. You’ve made the decision. You’re going to try CBD oil. But now that you’re ready, you’re not sure how to proceed. You might not even know where to buy CBD oil, let alone what kind you need. Buying CBD for the first time can lead to questions and concerns, but don’t worry--we’re here to help.
If you’re a first-time CBD buyer, there are a few things you should know. We’ve compiled five things you should think about before buying CBD for the first time.
Where to Buy CBD: Not All CBD Oil Is Created Equally
It seems like CBD oil is available around every corner. You can find CBD at the drug store, the grocery store, and even the gas station. When it’s your first time buying CBD oil, don’t let the ease of purchase impact your buying decision.
Not all CBD oils are created equally. Because CBD isn’t regulated by the FDA, there is no organization that holds companies accountable for creating safe, effective, quality CBD products.
Before you purchase CBD for the first time, we strongly encourage you to do some research. Look for a reputable CBD company--one that’s transparent about every aspect of its products, including clearly identifying all ingredients, where the hemp was grown, where the product was made, and what processes were used to create it. And absolutely look for a company that conducts third-party testing and offers a Certificate of Analysis for its products.
Different Types of CBD: Full-Spectrum, Broad-Spectrum, and Isolate
When buying CBD oil for the first time, you may notice different types of CBD: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate. All three products are made from the hemp plant, a low-THC cousin of marijuana, but differ in which compounds the oil holds.
Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all the components of the hemp plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Therefore, it has a more holistic impact due to the “entourage effect,” which describes how the individual compounds of the hemp plant act concertedly and more effectively when consumed together. That’s why many people opt for full-spectrum CBD.
Broad-spectrum CBD oil contains CBD from the hemp plant and some of the plant’s other compounds, but not all of them. In most cases, THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, is removed completely. Under U.S. law, full-spectrum CBD must contain no more than 0.3% THC by volume, which is not enough to cause intoxication.
CBD isolate is also extracted from the hemp plant, but the resulting oil contains only the CBD molecule. CBD products which are not labeled as either full-spectrum or broad-spectrum should be assumed to be isolate products.
How Much CBD Am I Buying: Potency
CBD potency and dosage are distinct concepts, yet they are completely dependent upon one another. They can also be confusing when you don’t have experience buying CBD.
The potency of CBD oil is its concentration--how much CBD the oil contains per bottle. An effective, high-quality CBD oil typically contains somewhere between 1,500 and 3,000 mg of CBD per fluid ounce, and that’s its potency. A bottle of CBD oil with a concentration of anything less than 1,500 mg is considered low-potency CBD oil. Each ounce contains 30 milliliters of oil, and a bottle’s full dropper normally measures one milliliter. Green Care Medical’s Active Formula contains 3,000 mg of full-spectrum CBD, which translates to 100 mg of CBD per milliliter.
How to Start Taking CBD: Dosage
The dosage is the amount of CBD oil you take at one time. Ideally, you want to find your minimum effective dose, which is the lowest possible dose of CBD that achieves your desired results. You’ll have to experiment to find it.
Everyone’s endocannabinoid system, the body’s system that CBD impacts, is different, and the dosage that works for your friend or family member may not be the optimal dosage for you.
Start with a low dose and slowly increase it. For first-time CBD buyers, we recommend beginning with one full dropper (1 milliliter) for a two-hour period and examining whether the desired effects arise. Depending on the results, either stay at that dosage or slightly increase it.
The vast majority of people tolerate CBD very well and don’t experience any negative effects.
